Switzerland won their first knockout match at a major tournament since 1938 by defeating France in a penalty shootout in the last 16 of Euro 2020.

After a 3-3 draw in Bucharest, Mario Gavranovic's penalty proved decisive as France's Kylian Mbappe missed the crucial spot-kick, sending his effort wide of the goal.

Switzerland will face Spain in the quarter-finals on Friday in Saint Petersburg.
